Background & Rationale
Social work in Somalia has progressed significantly since 2018 through pioneer universities with support from UNICEF and relevant government institutions. This growth has brought new opportunities for professional development and community impact across the nation.
However, despite this progress, the profession remains under-recognized and lacks national regulation and professional standards. There is no single national body to standardize ethics, practice, and professional development across the country.
"SAPSW is proposed to unify and professionalize social work practice nationwide, establishing a framework for excellence, ethics, and continuous professional growth."
The Somali Association of Professional Social Workers addresses this critical gap by providing a unified platform for professional recognition, ethical standards, licensing, and continuous advancement of social work practice throughout Somalia.
